AUDREY CHEN is a Chinese American living in Berlin. She has mastered the art of outlandish vocalizing and controlled mouth-based noisemaking. A collaborator of Phil Minton, with whom she plays and records as a duo, she occasionally accompanies herself on cello (as she did last year as a member of Maja Osojnik’s « All.The.Terms.We.Are »).
RICHARD SCOTT is British but also living in Berlin. This specialist of the modular synthesizer studied with John Stevens, Steve Lacy, and David Berezan. He has played with the greatest European improvisers, and worked in the London Musicians’ Collective. Some of the controllers he uses, he developed them himself at STEIM in Amsterdam. This is his first appearance at FIMAV.
The interplay between CHEN’s voice and SCOTT’s analogue sounds amounts to aural hallucination. Who’s doing what? And how? Can these two amazing artists be this much in phase? Released last year, the CD Hiss & Viscera brilliantly sets the table for this promising concert!
