Bérangère Maximin : objets sonores, artéfacts microphoniques, chimères numériques.
An exceptionally gifted composer, BÉRANGÈRE MAXIMIN studied electroacoustic music with Denis Dufour and made sound installations before she turned her back on the academic world to enter the realm of noise by integrating several extra-academic influences (sound art, Japanese, dub,
post-punk) to her style. This unusual background, combined with a highly coherent sonic discourse, troubling atmospheres, and high-profile collaborations with Rhys Chatham, Christian Fennesz, Fred Frith and Richard Pinhas have allowed her to establish herself in a male-dominated field.
MAXIMIN released her first album in 2008 on JOHN ZORN’s Tzadik label. The Belgian label Sub Rosa picked up her next two releases for their prestigious collection “New Series Framework.” On her latest opus Dangerous Orbits, released last year on the world-renowned Crammed Discs, she elevates the art of the drone to unsuspected level of sophistication.
