Preparations for the next FIMAV are progressing at a nice pace, and we just know the 26th edition will be something to remember!
That being said, until then, what to do? Usually, at this time of the year, we are all gearing up for FIMAV — us getting ready to produce the festival, you planning your trip to Victoriaville.
So, to help alleviate the symptoms of “withdrawal,” we are launching a new FIMAV group on Facebook. Why? Because we want to become the largest network of experimental and avant-garde music fans, that’s why!
And how about kicking things off with a little game? In your opinion, what have been the FIMAV’s five best concerts ever over the past 25 festivals, and why?
Discuss away and, who knows, we might be able to surprise you all once you agree on that golden Top 5!
On March 26th, the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville was in attendance at the 10th Grands Prix du tourisme québécois du Centre-du-Québec. During the ceremony, FIMAV received the award for “Best Festival/Event under $1 million.”
This prestigious distinction acknowledges our excellent festival and its exceptional appeal with international tourists. The key to this success is found in the event’s one-of-a-kind friendly ambience and an ongoing effort to provide outstanding concerts.
The provincial finale of the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois will be held this coming May 15th in Québec. A proud national finalist, FIMAV would like to thank all the passionate souls who have been supporting the event in the past 25 years!
Michel Levasseur has just been awarded the 2008 Opus Award for Best Artistic Director, a first for FIMAV! The Opus Awards are Quebec music industry awards in the fields of classical, contemporary, jazz, world, and experimental music, both live and recorded.

The 25th edition of the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville (FIMAV) took place from Thursday the 15th to Monday the 19th of May 2008 and everyone agrees this was an edition to remember!
“Organizing a jubilee edition is always delicate. You need to do just enough to celebrate the event, create the right level of expectation, and hope the magic will work… and it did!” said Michel Levasseur, FIMAV Artistic Director & General Manager.
At 6,000 admissions, the 2008 edition ranks among the Festival’s best years, a result that matched the organizers expectations. Even more important for the management was the feeling of “plenitude” that emanated from the crowd after every concert. How often have we heard longtime FIMAV attendants say “this is the FIMAV’s best programming ever!”
