LORI FREEDMAN SOLO
SUNDAY MAY 20
ÉGLISE ST-CHRISTOPHE D'ARTHABASKA
1 PM - $20
Lori Freedman : clarinette, clarinette basse, voix
LORI FREEDMAN is nothing less than a national treasure. A world-class performer and a seasoned improviser, she has managed, almost by herself, to
build a repertoire of solo works for her instrument of choice: the bass clarinet. She has been presenting this repertoire throughout the world, using it to blur
distinctions between composition and improvisation.
First known as a world music and contemporary music musician, FREEDMAN earned her name in free improvisation with the duo Queen Mab in the
mid-’90s. Then, following a move to Montreal, she became a key element of Ensemble SuperMusique. Nowadays, she splits her time between solo tours
and collaboration projects. In 2017, she became a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
For her concert at FIMAV, she will be performing “With What Becomes,” a program featuring works written for her, by her and by other musicians. With her vast knowledge of traditional and extended techniques, natural sense of performance, and great sensibility of her playing, you can count on experiencing something special.
