What a joy it is to have the great bassist WILLIAM PARKER back in Victoriaville! Fifteen years ago, he used to be of every edition, before his stellar Vision
Festival moved close to our own dates.
Watching him doublebass in hand, you cannot help but feel like that instrument was created for him. Then again, listening to him play, you become convinced
that it is his soul and his hands that have been made especially for it. A master jazzman, a force of nature, PARKER embodies the resilience of American modern
jazz in the face of adversity.
PARKER is bringing his most faithful band, the one that best defines his approach: « In Order to Survive ». This group has gone through several changes
since its inception in 1993. Lately, PARKER has brought it back to a closely-knit quartet format. ROB BROWN and his emblematic saxophone were a part of the very first album by « In Order to Survive ». For the FIMAV show, long-time comrade DAVE BURRELL will be subbing for the group’s resident pianist Cooper-Moore, otherwise engaged. The unbeatable symbiotic rhythm section of PARKER and drummer HAMID DRAKE anchors this line-up.
