In 1998, at FIMAV, Martin Tétreault performed a solo concert featuring turntables without records: needle on turntable, electrical interference, 60 Hz, speed variations. In 2026, his sound installations form a career retrospective. The persistent absence of vinyl, despite being the matrix of language since 1984. « Panorama » comprises altered record sleeves, colorful accumulations, revisited popular memory. Three decades focused on the absence of vinyl records.
Biographical Note:
Montreal’s Martin Tétreault is a turntablist, improviser, sound designer, and visual artist who performs on turntables that he has built or adapted himself. He has participated in numerous sound art and media art festivals and events in Quebec and internationally. He has released more than 50 albums on numerous labels. In 2004, he developed a system of musical notation and playing surfaces, creating the Turntable Quartet. In 2015, curator Nicole Gingras published Des disques et un couteau, a monograph documenting his work as a visual artist.
