The Jerusalem-born singer-composer AYELET ROSE GOTTLIEB has crisscrossed the planet in search of artistic enrichment, collaborations, and ways to integrate her Middle-East roots to Western music styles.
She has sung John Zorn as a member of the vocal group Mycale (two CDs in the Masada Book Two serie), worked with Dálava’s Aram Bajakian, and wrote for the ETHEL string quartet. The dozen or so projects she has recorded depict a multifaceted career that stretches from jazz songs to the avant-garde by way of children’s lullabies.
In 2019, GOTTLIEB left Vancouver, where she played with clarinetist François Houle and singer DB Boyko, to settle in Montreal, where she started a voice workshop serie entitled Vocal Intensive. In January 2021, she released her most elaborate record to date, the gorgeous 13 Lunar Meditations, which features a large number of Montreal musicians in addition to long-time collaborators.
For her first appearance at FIMAV, GOTTLIEB has put together an ad hoc, COVID-friendly band to perform material from that album alongside older numbers that showcase her fantastic talent.
