« Nabelóse » is the journey of two European musicians with perfectly compatible and complementary interests. ELENA KAKALIAGOU is of Greek extraction, currently residing in Berlin. She plays French horn in the revolutionary ensemble Zeitkratzer and Robin Hayward’s microtonal trio Zinc & Copper. She specializes in contemporary music. INGRID SCHMOLINER, from Vienna, has a twin academic background in classical piano and singing (notably yodelling!). She has more of a free improviser streak.
KAKALIAGOU and SCHMOLINER have been playing together since the beginning of the 2010s. Their trio Para with bassist Thomas Stempkowski has released three albums so far. «Nabelóse » is a Para side project, the result of a desire to compose together a repertoire inspired by traditional tunes and tales from Austria and Greece. These sources are reinvented through a Musique Actuelle lens that focuses on drones and multiphonics. The duo’s debut album, released in early 2017, unveils a unique soundworld, both meditative and uncannily seductive.
