Please welcome a high-wire free improvisation trio that brings together a veteran we haven’t seen in Victo in quite a while and two younger up-and-comers making their first appearance at FIMAV.
The clarinet player FRANÇOIS HOULE, whose name is often included in lists of the best representatives of his instrument, excels in avant-jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music interpretation. His flexible playing, both seductive and abrasive, is featured on dozens of projects and records, notably on the Songlines and Hat Hut labels.
Drummer KATE GENTILE has been active on the New York scene for a decade. She plays in the bands Secret People, Snark Horse and Find Letter X. This versatile musician is interested in avant-jazz, avant-rock and improvisation.
British pianist/organist ALEXANDER HAWKINS (Decoy, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Anthony Braxton Standard Quartet) devotes his career to the overlap between free improvisation and composition structures. His recent projects, either solo, or with Evan Parker and Tomeka Reid, have triggered an avalanche of accolades.
This trio played their first concert in Vancouver last fall.
