For jazz critics and fans, all the “greats” have had their classic line-up. When we say Miles Davis’ Quartet or John Coltrane’s Quartet, everyone knows what we’re talking about, however reductive that may be.

With JOHN ZORN, for many, that was the MASADA QUARTET, a group that drew its repertoire from ZORN’s “Masada Song Books” I & II, which contained hundreds of original melodies inspired by Jewish music. That band (trumpet, bass, drums, and ZORN on saxophone) ruled the jazz roost throughout the 1990s.

In 2019, ZORN surprised the whole world by putting together a NEW MASADA QUARTET. The band’s initial momentum was cut short by the pandemic, but ZORN reactivated it last year with a handful of performances and two fabulous records. The instrumentation has changed slightly (electric guitar instead of trumpet), the musicians bring a very fresh take on the material, and the master is as forceful and lyrical on the saxophone as ever. You can’t miss this show!
