CHRISTOPHE PETCHANATZ formed KLIMPEREI with Françoise Lefebvre in 1985. The project went from duo to solo at the turn of the millennium. PETCHANATZ has released over 40 records under this name (plus others with as Deleted, with Al & Del, etc.). For many, KLIMPEREI is synonymous with “toy music” or “naive music”. His works often consist of microcompositions for small instruments over a bed of truly charming hesitation and unbalance. It makes one think of Pascal Comelade or Nino Rota, in so that its apparent simplicity hides in-depth research and strokes of madness.
In 2007, PETCHANATZ met ÉMILIE SIAUT on the downloading platform Soulseek. Two weeks later, they started a live collaboration that has increased in time to the point where now KLIMPEREI rarely performs without MADAME PATATE. Their artistic worlds are strongly aligned and both record for the In Poly Sons label. Small instruments, delicate sounds, fragments of tunes out of nowhere – these two are looking for melodies in the tiniest of sounds.
