Three longtime friends who, through their shared interest in free improvisation and new music, managed to build, from scratch, an avant-garde scene in their country, Lebanon. Collectively, they are behind Irtijal—the first FIMAV-like festival in the whole Arab world—and the record labels Al Maslakh and Annihaya.
KERBAJ is better known, probably because he has been living in Berlin for the past few years. He is leading a twin career as a trumpet player (he also played saxophone in the past) and as a world-renowned cartoonist and illustrator. SHARIF SEHNAOUI, who is just as fluent in stripped-down textural improvisation as in experimental rock, also plays in the bands Karkhana and Calamita. RAED YASSIN is also one half of the band Praed.
Formed in Beyrouth in 2002, « A Trio » has performed all over the world and sports a hefty discography that includes, among other treasures, collaborations with Sun City Girls’ Alan Bishop and free improv pioneers, AMM.
