For its second appearance at FIMAV, QUATUOR BOZZINI presents an exclusive, 100% Québécois program that crosses over between composition and improvisation. It should be said that the Montréal-based string quartet has been championing local composers since its inception in 1999.
We will be treated to two world premieres. One was commissioned from bassist NICOLAS CALOIA (leader of the Ratchet Orchestra and a member of the trio In the Sea with Tristan Honsinger and Joshua Zubot), who is already quite adept at writing for small ensembles. The other piece is by electroacoustician/composer Jef Chippewa and calls for the addition of sax player YVES CHARUEST, who played in the Peter Kowald Trio in the ’80s and in the collective trio Wreck’s Progress in the ’90s. Since his comeback in the 2010s, he has developed several projects, including a tight duo with CALOIA.
The program will be rounded up by a collective improvisation featuring all six musicians.
