A drummer, guitarist, sax player and organizer, DAVID DUGAS DION is one of those artists that make Montreal’s underground heart beat. Since 2003, he has been running Cuchabata Records to document a whole flux of music ranging from alt rock to free jazz and noise. Though he comes back periodically to songwriting with his group David and the Woods, his experimental tentacles stretch to several bands, among them La Forêt rouge, Leftovers Diable, and Araça bleu.

DAVID AND THE MOUNTAIN is the name he uses for his most out-there solo projects. In 2016, after composing two 30-minute rhythm-focused modular pieces, he invited a host of members of the Cuchabata family to leave a mark on them, and then proceeded to edit these tracks into the album Ensemble. For the live version, he redeveloped the material and gathered 11 players (among them SAM SHALABI and ALEXANDRE ST-ONGE), conducting them from the drum stool.

DAVID AND THE MOUNTAIN ENSEMBLE is the sum of DUGAS DION’s projects of the past 15 years. All his eclectic influences are found herein, sublimated through conducted collective improvisation. Prepare for a thrilling ride replete with twists and turns.
