The New York-based guitar quartet DITHER has been around since 2007 and is well known for “jumping the fence” between contemporary music and Musique Actuelle. The ensemble’s repertoire and list of collaborators include a-many friends of FIMAV, names like Nels Cline, Fred Frith, MARY HALVORSON, and Ikue Mori. Lately, the band has been working on a concert-length piece by and with Lee Ranaldo. And in 2015, the quartet released an album’s worth of John Zorn’s game pieces (“Fencing”, “Hockey”, and “Curling”) entitled John Zorn’s Olympiad, Vol. 1.

DITHER’s members are TAYLOR LEVINE, JOSHUA LOPES, JAMES MOORE (who has recorded his own rendition of Zorn’s famous “The Book of Heads”), and GYAN RILEY. The latter is obviously better known to our audience, thanks to his duo with his father Terry and his collaborations with Iva Bittová and Julian Lage.

In fifteen years of activity, DITHER has gathered an impressive repertoire of works composed for the band or by its members. What do they have in store for us? A set of cutting-edge electric guitar Musique Actuelle.
