Surprising collaboration, right?
MOOR MOTHER is the solo moniker of Philadelphia-based interdisciplinary artist CAMAE AYEWA. This engaged poet was first largely noticed in 2016, with the release of her album Fetish Bones, a manifesto that blended hip-hop and electronica with fierce originality. In her live sets, she displays feral-like energy.
At age 78, ROSCOE MITCHELL needs no introduction, but just in case… This revolutionary composer, unparalleled improviser, and founding member of the venerable Art Ensemble of Chicago (which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year) is enjoying a stellar end of career, due in part to his interest in engaging younger generations and putting himself on the line artistically.
MOOR MOTHER and ROSCOE MITCHELL inaugurated their unexpected duo last November at the Berlin Jazz Festival. Concert offers soon followed, the interest for this unusual pairing being very high.
